The American Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand exists to promote two-way trade and investment relationships primarily between New Zealand and the United States and also within the Asia-Pacific region.

New Zealand United States trade and investment have a considerable impact on the New Zealand economy. The USA is New Zealand's third largest trading partner with trade totaling in excess of $NZ 16 billion. US companies operating in New Zealand account for investment totaling in excess of $NZ12.6 billion and thousands of jobs.

Through membership of the United States Chamber of Commerce, AmCham New Zealand has liaison relationships with all Chambers in the United States and more than 116 AmCham offices in 103 countries abroad including the influential APCAC – the Asia Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce.

AmCham New Zealand is able to provide a unique service for members by being the largest conduit for enquiries from American companies seeking business contacts in New Zealand.

Through the international division of the Chamber in Washington, AmCham New Zealand is able to provide American business and administration officials with information on local legislation and fiscal actions affecting international trade and investment.

A not for profit organisation, AmCham New Zealand is run and financed by New Zealand-based business people with an annually elected Board of Directors. It employs an experienced Executive Director to ensure the highest professional standards.

AmCham Objectives

  • To promote the association of business people concerned with trade and investment with the USA.
  • To promote the development of mutually prosperous and amicable economic, social and commercial relationships between New Zealand and the USA.
  • To make available information concerning existing or projected laws affecting USA interests in New Zealand and New Zealand interest in the USA.
  • To represent and express the opinion of the business communities in New Zealand and the USA on questions of trade, commerce, finance, industry and taxation.
  • To make available statistical and other information concerning matters of business, financial or professional interest. To provide a reference library and data bank.
  • To advise on sources of commercial information.
  • To encourage the highest standards of USA commercial practice by USA firms in New Zealand. To maintain the ethical reputation of the United States business community.
  • To lend all practical assistance to New Zealand members seeking to enter the USA market or wishing to develop activities in the USA.
  • To assist United States companies to enter the New Zealand market, preferably in conjunction with AmCham members.
  • To participate in key events and services of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States, with over 200,000 business and several thousand trade and professional associations.
  • To research and present the business views of members to governments in Wellington and Washington.
  • To encourage a better understanding of the benefits of foreign direct investment in New Zealand.
