Derek Syme was the Citi Country Officer for New Zealand and is responsible for all businesses in New Zealand until 29/12/23.
Before assuming this role in February 2011, Derek was Head of Global Transaction Services for Australia and New Zealand.
Derek joined Citi in 1994 as a Relationship Manager in New Zealand. In 2001 he assumed dual responsibility as Head of the New Zealand Corporate Bank and Head of Agribusiness and Forestry for Citi Australia and New Zealand. He moved to Sydney in 2003 to take up the position of Head of Relationship Management and Sales for Global Transaction Services in Australia. He earned his Senior Credit Officer designation in 2004.
Before joining Citi, Derek worked for Westpac Banking Corporation in New Zealand for five years.
Derek was appointed to the Board of American Chamber of Commerce New Zealand in September 2011 and was appointed as President of American Chamber of Commerce New Zealand in May 2014.
Derek was educated at Lincoln University, New Zealand where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce. He was awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Finance from the University of Otago in 1989. Derek lives in Auckland with his wife Sandy and their two children
